For fans wondering why TCU men’s basketball coach Jamie Dixon did not get a formal introduction to the crowd before Friday night’s opener against St. Thomas, there is a simple explanation: coaches are not part of pre-game introductions under Big 12 rules.
Mark Cohen, TCU’s associate athletics director for communications, cited the league-wide policy Saturday. Dixon, a former Horned Frogs’ player who spent the last 13 seasons at Pittsburgh, won his debut as coach of his alma mater over St. Thomas, 82-64, on a night when ticket holders in the announced crowd of 6,075 at Schollmaier Arena received Dixon bobbleheads. Asked about the lack of a pre-game introduction at his TCU debut following the Friday win, Dixon laughed and said: “I didn’t even realize that was the case.”
TCU’s next game is Monday against Alabama State at 8 p.m. in Fort Worth.
