UT Arlington men upset Georgia State to reach Sun Belt tennis finals
UT Arlington upset top-seeded Georgia State 4-1, sending the Mavericks to the finals at the Sun Belt Conference men’s tennis tournament in New Orleans.
The Mavericks (17-10) will face South Alabama at 2 p.m. Sunday for the championship.
UTA’s 17 victories this season ties a season high set originially in 2001.
The women’s team fell to South Alabama 4-3 in the semifinals.
It is the second consecutive season the Jaguars knocked the Mavericks (17-5) out of the tournament.
Softball: UTA split its Sun Belt doubleheader with host Georgia State, winning the opener 8-6 and losing the second game 7-2.
In the opener, the Mavericks (28-13, 7-10 Sun Belt) scored three runs in the seventh inning and held off a Georgia State rally.
TCU roundup
Women’s golf: TCU freshman Sabina Pena shot a 5-under-par 67 to take the individual lead after the second round of the Big 12 Women’s Golf Championship in San Antonio.
No. 27 TCU’s 1-over 289 tied for the second-best score on the day. The Horned Frogs are in fourth place at 583, nine shots behind leader Oklahoma State’s 574.
Back suspended
Miami Hurricanes running back Mark Walton was suspended after being arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
