TCU track & field gets three first-places at San Antonio event

TCU had three first-place finishes at the inaugural Ricardo Romo Invitational in San Antonio on Saturday.

Brianna McGhee won the 100-meter hurdles, with a wind-aided time of 13.29 seconds. Darrion Flowers won the 100 meters in 10.54, and Kirsten Johnston won the 3,000 in 10:09.52.

In other TCU sports:

Beach volleyball: The Horned Frogs (7-4) defeated Jacksonville 3-2 before losing 4-1 to host South Carolina in the Gamecock Invitational. The team of Molly Scheel and Ariah Palter went undefeated.

Equestrian: No. 6 TCU finished third in the Big 12 Championship, defeating No. 8 Kansas State 11-8.

UTA roundup

Softball: UTA fell to host Georgia Southern 7-2 in the third game of its Sun Belt series.

The Mavericks lost two of three in the series and fall to 2-4 in conference play. They are 23-6 for the season.

Women’s tennis: UTA defeated host Louisiana-Lafayette 4-0 to run its Sun Belt Conference record to 2-0.

The Mavericks are 11-2 for the season and have swept three consecutive opponents.

UNT roundup

Softball: Jessica Elder gave up one run on four hits in four innings of relief, helping North Texas outlast host Western Kentucky 9-6 in a Conference USA game.

Elder entered the game with the score tied 5-5.

Harley Perrella had three RBIs for UNT and Kelli Schkade added two.
