Rebekah Van Dijk scored 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as UT Arlington rallied down the stretch for a 45-39 victory Thursday over Georgia State in Atlanta.
The Mavericks (9-6, 3-3 Sun Belt) outscored the Panthers 20-5 in the final 7:35 to seal the victory, which snapped a three-game skid for UTA.
Van Dijk, who was 6-of-7 from the field, was the only Mavericks player in double figures, but Cierra Johnson chipped in with eight and Chaun Williams added seven.
Brittany Logan was the only Georgia State player to finish in double figures with 12 points and 12 rebounds. The Panthers (7-8, 2-4) made just one of their final nine shots, a 3-pointer by Ashlee Cole with 17 seconds left after the Mavericks had pulled out to a 44-36 lead.
Georgia State led 19-17 a halftime and pulled out to a 34-25 lead with 8:29 remaining, but Van Dijk and Johnson sparked a 9-0 Mavericks run before Logan hit a basket with 4:35 to play. It was the Panthers last basket until Cole’s 3-pointer in the final seconds.
Morgan Hunt hit two free throws to tie the game at 35, and Van Dijk gave the Mavericks a 37-35 lead with a layup at the 3:30 mark. Johnson and Williams scored four points each during an 8-1 run in the final minutes to put the game away.
