Rebekah VanDijk matched a season-high with 18 points and UT Arlington picked up its second consecutive Sun Belt Conference victory, routing Appalachian State 76-45 on Thursday.

The victory was also the third straight on the road for the Mavericks (7-6, 2-1 Sun Belt), as they begin a three-game road trip. UTA gave up fewer than 50 points for the fourth time in five games.

UTA also got 14 points each from Cierra Johnson and Morgan Hunt, and Breck Clark added 12 points. Hunt’s total was a career high as UTA shot 53.7 percent from the field.

UTA held Appalachian State to 3-of-11 shooting in the second quarter, and led by 12 at halftime, 30-18. The 18 points for Appalachian State (4-8, 1-2) tied the season low for points in the first half.

“Our defense did a nice job,” UTA coach Krista Gerlich said. “We could have held them a little bit better in the fourth quarter, but we got a little bit foul happy. I really like the intensity of our kids right now, the focus to game-plan and really taking pride in their defense.”
