UT Arlington scored only six points in each of the first two quarters and fell to host Kansas State 61-41 in women’s basketball on Thursday night.

The Mavericks (3-4) fell behind 25-12 at halftime and were never a factor.

UTA shot only 27.3 percent from the field and hit only 21.1 percent of its 3-pointers. It was not much better at the free throw line, where the Mavericks shot 58.3 percent.

“Kansas State is a really good basketball team. They have a lot of weapons. They can definitely shoot the basketball well,” UTA coach Krista Gerlich said. “They kind of jumped on us early and kind of punched us in the mouth, and we never did respond.

“I’m disappointed in our effort and that we did not respond better to that, but also, I think you have to give credit to K-State for just having a little bit of swag and knowing that they were supposed to win that ballgame. They came out and played like it.”

UTA didn’t have anyone in double figures, with Breck Clark leading with nine points.

LaShanda Green led the Mavericks with six rebounds and three assists.

Kindred Wesemann led Kansas State (5-1) with 19 points.
