Cleared of sexual assault charges, ex-Texas Longhorn signs 3-year NFL contract
The Cleveland Browns signed Isaiah Bond to a three-year, $3.018 million guaranteed contract shortly after the former star Texas Longhorns wide receiver was cleared of sexual assault charges.
The charges were brought before a Collin County grand jury, which returned a no-bill, clearing Bond of charges. Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis made a statement after the announcement of the grand jury’s decsion.
“After reviewing all the evidence presented, a Collin County grand jury returned a ‘no bill’ in the sexual assault charge involving Isaiah Bond, meaning no indictment will be issued,” Willis said. “This concludes the criminal proceedings in this matter.”
Bond had previously turned himself in to Frisco police on April 10 and addressed the allegations, asking people to wait for judgment until the case was adjudicated.
Bond played two seasons at Alabama before transferring to Texas for his final collegiate season in 2024. In three years, Bond made 99 catches for 1,428 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Browns general manager Andrew Berry explained why the team signed Bond.
“We’ve spent much of the last calendar year getting to know Isaiah as a player and professional and much of the last four months gaining a full understanding of his legal situation,” Berry said in a statement. “... Before the allegations, we also spent a great deal of time with Isaiah during the draft process on campus, at the Combine and at our facilities. His time with [Browns offensive coordinator] Tommy Rees at Alabama also weighed heavily on our assessment of his ability to operate successfully in a professional environment if brought into our organization.”
Bond joins a Browns team looking to make the playoffs for the first time since the 2023 season.
