Former DeSoto and Texas Longhorns football player arrested in Fort Worth
Former Texas Longhorn and Desoto high school standout Johntay Cook was arrested on Tuesday for property theft and interfering with public duties.
According to the Tarrant County inmate search website, Cook was booked in the Lon Evans Corrections Center in Fort Worth. No bond has been posted.
According to the police report Cook was at a smokeshop drive-thru on 2400 Meachem Boulevard on Monday morning and was asked to leave after his card was declined. However, Cook instead reached inside the window, stole a pair of car keys, and drove around the establishment’s parking lot with them.
Cook had a star career at Desoto, racking up 2,974 receiving yards and 51 touchdowns in high school en route to being a four-star recruit according to 247 Sports.
He signed with the Texas Longhorns ahead of the 2023 college football season over the Oregon Ducks and the Michigan Wolverines.
Cook spent the past two seasons with the Longhorns before entering the transfer portal following the 2024 season and signed with the University of Washington, but parted ways with the Huskies soon after committing and is currently without a team.
