Texas Longhorns fans have message for Sen. Ted Cruz: Please skip Saturday’s Georgia game

Texas Longhorns football fans have a favor to ask of Sen. Ted Cruz: Please stay away from their game on Saturday against Georgia.

Many of the Texas fans going to the game support the Republican senator, who is seeking to fend off an election challenge from Democrat Colin Allred on Nov. 5.

This is about much more than politics.

The top-ranked Longhorns host No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs in the Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. Texas fans want to win. Some of them are so serious that they’ve started a petition on Change.Org asking Cruz to stay away from the stadium. As of Friday morning, the petition has nearly 1,500 signatures.

It’s the Cruz Curse. Or jinx. Or simply a silly superstition.

Haven’t heard of it?

In the past few years when Sen. Cruz comes to support a Texas sports team, they lose.

He was at Minute Maid Park earlier this month when the Houston Astros lost to the Detroit Tigers in the Major League Baseball playoffs.

And remember the Longhorns’ College Playoff Game earlier this year against Washington? Yep, he was at that game, too. The Longhorns lost 37-31.

Of course, don’t be surprised if the Georgia Bulldogs fans start a petition, asking Sen. Cruz to come to the game.
