Texas Woman’s University basketball makes history in NCAA Division II playoffs

Texas Woman’s University basketball (34-4) is in the midst of its most successful season in school history.

For the first time in school history, the team has won more than 30 games, had their first Lone Star Conference player of the year in Ashley Ingram and will now play in their first national NCAA Division II championship game.

Beth Jillson leads the Pioneers and has been the head coach for the team since 2007 winning three Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year awards during her tenure.

The Fort Worth native is also the winningest coach in program history with a record of 272-207.

The Pioneers cruised to the national championship with a 68-52 win over Ferris State on Wednesday in the semifinals to advance to the title game.

Most of the Pioneers have North Texas ties. Ashley Ingram, who leads the team in scoring (18.2 points) is from Bridgeport.

Texas Woman’s will play Minnesota State at 7 p.m. on Friday at the St. Joseph Civic Arena and the game will air on CBS Sports Network.
