AT&T Stadium loses two college games as AdvoCare Classic cancels, A&M-Arkansas moves
AT&T Stadium lost two of its marquee college football games on Thursday.
The 2020 AdvoCare Classic between Alabama and USC was officially canceled, and the Texas A&M-Arkansas matchup is being moved to College Station as conferences across the country adopt a conference-only model for the upcoming football season.
AT&T Stadium issued a news release saying fans who purchased tickets for the AdvoCare Classic through the stadium’s box offices will automatically be sent refunds within 10 to 14 business days. Tickets purchased via schools’ ticket offices can be refunded with followup from the schools once details surrounding the season are finalized. All other ticket purchasers will need to contact the seller for a refund.
The AdvoCare Classic has been played with high-profile matchups since AT&T Stadium opened in 2009. Last year featured Oregon and Auburn. This year was set to be the first rematch as USC and Alabama played in 2016. Alabama rolled to a 52-6 victory that year.
Alabama was set to make its fourth appearance in the showcase, while it would have been USC’s second.
Texas A&M and Arkansas, meanwhile, were set for a Sept. 26 game in Arlington. That matchup has been played at AT&T Stadium since 2014, but A&M athletic director Ross Bjork said in a statement: “We will also work with the University of Arkansas and officials at AT&T Stadium to officially move our game to Kyle Field since we are the designated home team for this season.”
The SEC announced plans for a 10-game, conference-only schedule starting Sept. 26.
