Mason Cox grew up playing soccer in DFW, according to a recent report from Deadspin.

Then, after growing to 6-foot-10, he became a goalie.

Eventually, he walked on for two years as a forward on the Oklahoma State Cowboys basketball team for his junior (2011) and senior (2012) seasons.

Before he could start a job at Exonn Mobil in Houston, he was reportedly discovered by NBA scout Jonathan Givonym who also sends unique athletes to the Australian Football League.

In April 2015, he performed well at an AFL combine in Los Angeles.

After signing a contract with Collingwood and turning in a stint on their reserve team in 2015 season. He then made his first appearance for the team in 2016 and is signed through 2020.

Watching him tower over his opponents is hard to explain.

This coming Saturday, he could become the first American to play in a grand final.

He’s also nicknamed “American Pie.”
