Fine, Easly keep UNT undefeated with lopsided win over Liberty
Mason Fine and Loren Easly combined for five touchdowns as UNT routed Liberty 47-7 on Saturday night at Williams Stadium in Lynchburg, Va.
Fine continued to add to his junior year resume – finding Jaelon Darden and Rico Bussey Jr. in the end zone to put North Texas (4-0) up 14-0 in the first quarter. Fine threw for 157 of his 185 passing yards in the first half.
Saturday’s game saw was delayed by lightning twice for more than 40 minutes.
Following the delay, the Mean Green scored on four consecutive possessions with touchdown runs from Easly, DeAndre Torrey, and Nic Smith. UNT rushed for 346 yards on the night
Easly, a redshirt junior, had 177 yards on 27 carries and two touchdowns.
Liberty (1-2) used a four-play drive in the second quarter to cut the lead 14-7, however failed to find the end zone again.
Darden finished with four receptions for 65 yards and a score.
Fine connected with seven different receivers on the night.
Flames quarterback Stephen Calvert threw for 222 yards a touchdown, and an interception.
The Mean Green will look to stay undefeated when they host UTEP next Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
