UTA baseball rides big first inning to second straight victory

The UT Arlington baseball team remained hot Saturday afternoon at Clay Gould Ballpark.

The Mavericks scored five runs in the first inning and never trailed in a 7-3 victory over Arkansas-Little Rock.

Junior second baseman Darien McLemore, son of former Rangers utility man Mark McLemore, had two hits and three RBIs for the Mavericks (19-26, 10-13 Sun Belt), who won their second straight after dropping five in a row.

Junior right-hander Jacob Moreland (4-2) pitched 5 2/3 innings in relief of Brad Vassar to earn the victory for UTA. Moreland allowed one run on four hits and struck out two.

UTA will wrap up its three-game set against the Trojans (14-27, 10-12) at 1 p.m. Sunday.
