UT Arlington bats erupt in first game of twin bill split
UT Arlington split a baseball doubleheader with Troy on Saturday at Clay Gould Ballpark, winning the first game 15-4 before falling 7-6 in the second game.
UTA (16-21, 7-10 Sun Belt) was led by Jackson Morris offensively as the junior infielder went 5 for 9 with a home run and six RBI in the two games.
Morris went 3 for 4 in the first game and was one of six Mavericks who recorded multiple hits in the lopsided win. Chad Nack (3-3) won the first game, giving up four runs on eight hits while striking out three in seven innings.
In the second game, Troy (21-19, 10-7) jumped out to a 7-0 lead — scoring five in the first two innings — before UTA started trying to rally in the eighth. The Mavericks used seven singles and a hit by pitch to score six runs off Troy starter Lucas Brown.
The Mavericks, however, weren’t able to score on Trojans closer Jeremy McGowan, who got the save.
