UTA women roll to secure first SBC tournament berth
Rebekah Van Dijk had a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds, leading UT Arlington to a 66-41 victory over Georgia Southern in Sun Belt Conference women’s basketball on Thursday.
The Mavericks (16-12, 10-9 Sun Belt) clinched a spot in the conference tournament for the first time. The victory also secured UTA its first winning season since 2008-09.
Cierra Johnson had 15 points and six steals for the Mavericks.
“It is exciting for those girls, they have really earned it,” UTA coach Krista Gerlich said. “They are playing really well right now and they have a lot of confidence. I am glad they got to do it themselves and not have to rely on someone else getting beat in order to clinch.”
