No. 10 Frogs take two from Penn St. to sweep doubleheader
Brian Howard threw seven shutout inning to lead No. 10 TCU to a 6-2 victory over Penn State in the first game of a doubleheader and Luken Baker drove in the winning run in the eighth inning for a 5-4 in Game two to complete a doubleheader sweep Saturday.
Brian Howard (6-2) limited Penn State four hits and struck out four in Game 1 for the Horned Frogs (32-12).
Elliott Barzilli hit his seventh home run of the season, TCU’s 28th this year, with one out in the second to put TCU up 1-0. TCU added to its lead with two runs in the third and three in the fourth.
Cam Warner recorded his third career four-hit game. He was 4-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI.
In Game 2, Baker singled to drive in Evan Skoug in the eighth to break a 4-4 tie and TCU held on after blowing a 4-2 lead in the seventh.
Penn State took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but TCU tied it in the top of the second on a two-run homer by Josh Watson after Baker had reached with a double. With one out, Connor Wanhanen single and scored on a RBI double by Dane Steinhagen to give the Frogs a 3-2 lead.
TCU added an unearned run in the seventh, but the Nittany Lions scored two unearned runs off Jared Janczak in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 4-4.
Ryan Burnett and Brian Trieglaff struck out the final two batters in the eighth and Trieglaff pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the ninth to lock up his second save of the season.
Game 2 starter Dalton Holton gave up two runs on two hits in the first inning. Jaznczak came on to pitch 5 1/3 before running into trouble in the seventh.
