Who will be the next Cowboys in the Hall?
CANTON, Ohio -- Cowboys fans used to wonder whether there was a bias against Dallas by the 44 selectors for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. But no longer. Six players with Cowboys ties have entered the Hall since 2006, including Deion Sanders on Saturday. So who's next? Here are some Cowboys players, and one ex-coach, who could find their way to Canton sometime in the future:
Larry Allen
Years with Cowboys: 1994-2005
Pro Bowls: 11 (Cowboys 10, 49ers 1)
Best stat: Once bench-pressed 700 pounds
HOF eligible: 2013
His chances: Allen should get into the Hall of Fame. The question is: Will it be in his first year of eligibility? Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith and Deion Sanders all were first-ballot Hall of Famers. But Michael Irvin had to wait three years.
Charles Haley
Years with Cowboys: 1992-96
Pro Bowls: 5 (49ers 3, Cowboys 2)
Best stat: Five Super Bowl rings
HOF eligible: 2005
His chances: Haley has made it to the finalist list of 15 the past two years but has never made it any closer. Defensive linemen John Randle and Richard Dent were in the past two classes, respectively, so Cortez Kennedy might be next pass rusher to go in. But Haley should have a decent shot the next two years.
Cliff Harris
Years with the Cowboys: 1970-79
Pro Bowls: 6
Best stat: NFL 1970s All-Decade Team
HOF eligible: Seniors candidate
His chances: He is one of nine players from the '70s All-Decade Team not in the Hall of Fame, one of three Cowboys. He would have to go in as a seniors candidate now, having been passed over for the last time as a modern-era candidate in 2004 when he was one of 15 finalists.
Bill Parcells
Years with the Cowboys: 2003-06
Pro Bowls: NA
Best stat: 183-138-1 in his coaching career
HOF eligible: 2012
His chances: There is some skepticism that Parcells, who went 34-32 with no playoff wins in Dallas, will stay retired. He made it
to the finalist list of 15 in 2001 and '02, after his first retirement, without making it into Canton.
Drew Pearson
Years with the Cowboys: 1973-83
Pro Bowls: 3
Best stat: Made 67 receptions for 1,105 yards and eight touchdowns in 22 postseason games
HOF eligible: Seniors candidate
His chances: Jerry Jones will add him to the Ring of Honor this season, which will help his Hall of Fame candidacy. But even though Mr. Clutch had some of the biggest catches in NFL history, including the Hail Mary against the Vikings in the 1975 playoffs, his wait isn't going to end anytime soon.
