UIL rules transfers Ty and Lane Carter ineligible for Alamo Heights varsity sports

Ty Carter and Lane Carter, brothers who played for La Vernia's football program in 2025, are ineligible to play varsity athletics for Alamo Heights for the 2026-27 school year, the UIL state executive committee ruled Thursday.

The committee determined they transferred to Alamo Heights for athletic purposes, a UIL violation. Ty, who will be a senior this fall, rushed for nearly 2,000 yards during La Vernia's state semifinal run in 2025. Lane is a sophomore who played sub-varsity football last season.

Ty and Lane's parents filed an appeal to UIL following a unanimous decision made by the District 26-5A executive committee that they moved for athletic purposes.

The brothers withdrew from La Vernia on March 5 and enrolled at Alamo Heights on March 18. Their parents told the committee the family is planning to move to Colorado and put their house in La Vernia on the market. They said they found a house to buy in Colorado, but the sale fell through.

When that occurred, the family looked for another place to live in La Vernia, but they couldn't find a suitable one. Instead, they moved into an apartment in Alamo Heights while they continued to search for a place to live in Colorado. The family cited proximity to the airport for business travel as a main reason to live in Alamo Heights.

As a senior, Ty is not eligible to participate in varsity football at Alamo Heights. The brothers are still eligible to play varsity athletics at La Vernia for 2026-27. Lane can play sub-varsity athletics for Alamo Heights in 2026-27.
