Rangers bounce back after tough night, beat Angels on walk-off single
The Texas Rangers defeated the Los Angeles Angels 7-6 at Globe Life Field on Thursday night to reclaim first place in the American League West.
The Rangers were coming off a 13-1 loss to the Angels on Wednesday night, marking their worst loss since Aug. 16, 2025, which was the last time they allowed over 13 runs.
Nathan Eovaldi won his fifth consecutive start for the Rangers. The win marked the fourth time since 2018 that a Ranger has won five or more consecutive starts, with Eovaldi doing it for the second time. He won six in a row last season.
Eovaldi impressed with a season-high 10 strikeouts and allowed only two runs, marking a big flip from the night before. Eovaldi pitched six innings against the Angels.
Threee Rangers hit home runs. Outfielder Brandon Nimmo hit one in the first, infielder Ezequiel Duran hit one in the third and infielder Justin Foscue hit one in the fourth.
The Rangers had a rough stretch during the seventh when Eovaldi got pulled after allowing one run. The Rangers would go on to allow four more in the inning, allowing the Angels to tie the game.
The win gave the Rangers the series as they retook first place in the AL West and put their record back above .500 at 47-46.
Outfielder Wyatt Langford returned to the lineup, but in the designated hitter role. Langford was placed on the injury list after suffering a hamstring strain June 28. Langford was expected to be out until after the All Star break, but returned earlier than expected.
Langford had a slow start, but showed his instant impact after he hit a walk-off single to send Alejandro Osuna home for the win. It was the Rangers’ third walk-off win of the year.
“There’s a lot of credit to our training staff of getting him back in such a fast time,” Rangers manager Skip Schumaker said about Langford. “Trust the player, trust the training staff and the training staff did an amazing job with him, and you know that last at bat was crucial. Obviously we don’t win that game without Wyatt Langford.”
The Rangers will face the Houston Astros before they head into the All-Star break.
The Rangers will face off against the Astros at Globe Life Field at 7:05 p.m. Friday.
