CBS Forced To Change NFL Broadcast Crew After Jason McCourty's Departure
CBS has no choice but to make a change to one of its announcing crews for the 2026 NFL season.
It was announced on Friday that former NFL star Jason McCourty signed a multi-year deal with ESPN. As part of his agreement, he'll exclusively appears on ESPN's signature shows such as "Get Up" and "First Take."
"Entering his third season with ESPN, McCourty will continue contributing across the company's expansive NFL portfolio, regularly appearing on signature studio shows including NFL Live, Get Up, First Take and SportsCenter, while providing analysis and insight throughout the NFL season and beyond, as the company prepares for its historic first presentation of the Super Bowl in February 2027," ESPN said in a press release. "Since joining ESPN ahead of the 2024 NFL season, McCourty has become a trusted voice across the network's NFL programming, bringing the perspective of a player with more than a decade of NFL experience. His thoughtful analysis, versatility and engaging on-air presence have made him a valuable contributor across ESPN's daily lineup."
This deal is a tough blow to CBS since McCourty was part of a broadcasting crew that included Andrew Catalon and Charles Davis.
What makes this situation even more complicated is the fact that Davis will provide color commentary for CBS' college football coverage this year. That means the network has to find a new analyst to place next to Catalon.
Who'll replace Jason McCourty?
Awful Announcing pointed out that former New England Patriots defensive back Logan Ryan worked NFL and college football games for CBS last season. He's a respectable option who is capable of replacing McCourty.
Former NFL offensive lineman Kyle Long could also be viewed as an option for the broadcast booth.
Of course, the duo of Jim Nantz and Tony Romo will continue to lead the No. 1 team for CBS. The No. 2 team will be led by Ian Eagle and JJ Watt.
