Why are only two umpires calling the start of the Rangers game tonight?
Only two umpires will be present for the start of the Texas Rangers vs San Diego Padres game at Globe Life Field because of weather and travel issues in Dallas-Fort Worth on Friday.
Both teams will receive one additional replay review challenge as a result. More umpires are expected to join the game as they arrive.
One umpire will be behind home plate with the other being on the first-base line. The first pitch went off at 7:08 p.m.
The Rangers will be looking to get back into the win column after losing five of their last six and getting swept by the Twins earlier in the week. It is Jacob deGrom night in the ballpark for the Rangers.
The Padres are coming off a win over the Cardinals; Randy Vásquez is their starter.
The change quickly affected players. In the top of the first inning, Rangers catcher Elias Diaz pointed at first base thinking there would be a first-base umpire, when the umpire was in the middle of the diamond.
The full crew arrived by the bottom of the first inning.
