Packers Still Reeling From Micah Parsons Injury Situation

Micah Parsons was supposed to be the centerpiece of Green Bay’s defense this season. That’s why last August’s trade with Dallas felt so significant at the time. Having one of the best defensive players in the NFL is a good thing, unless he gets injured. Unfortunately, that’s the case with the Packers.

Here we are, just a few months before the season starts, and the Packers are still expecting to start the 2026 season without Parsons. For a franchise that’s pretty much built their defense around him, that hurts.

So, what’s a team to do? They need to sign a veteran edge rusher to fill that void. That’s exactly the advice that Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report gives in a piece about what every NFL team needs to do ahead of the 2026 season.

“Micah Parsons isn’t expected back on the field until October after suffering a torn ACL in December,” he notes in the piece. “The Green Bay Packers will lean on Lukas Van Ness, Barryn Sorrell, Brenton Cox Jr. and rookie Dani Dennis-Sutton to create pressure off the edge until Parsons returns.”

He adds: “The initial trio combined for four sacks a season ago. Thus, the Packers should be one of multiple franchises in the market for pass-rush help.”

Do the Packers Need an Immediate Micah Parsons Replacement?

So, should the Packers sign a vet? Yes and no. It never hurts to have a veteran on the field, especially when someone like Parsons is benched. But, the Packers could also fly solo. They could work with what they have. They have some solid pieces, but no Parsons-level talent.

Right now, the plan appears to be to rely on their current lineup, including former first-rounder Lukas Van Ness and budding talent Barryn Sorrell. These guys are expected to fill the void while Parsons recovers from his ACL injury. Whether those players will be strong enough to fill the Parsons gap all the way to October is a question. But, that seems to be the main plan for the Packers going forward.
