Former NFL Star Darren Sharper Transferred From Federal Prison

NFL fans learned this Tuesday that former safety Darren Sharper was transferred from federal prison.

Sharper was accused of drugging women in Arizona, Las Vegas, New Orleans and West Hollywood from 2011-2014. There were multiple rape allegations that emerged prior to his arrest in January 2014. It wasn't until August 2016 that he was sentenced to 18 years in prison, but he was credited for his time spent in jail in 2014.

After over a decade of serving time behind bars, Sharper was moved to a halfway house program.

A US Bureau of Prisons spokesperson told Ramon Antonio Vargas of the Guardian that Sharper has been transferred from federal prison to "community confinement" in Baltimore.

"The spokesperson said the transfer in Sharper's case means he is either in home confinement or living at a residential re-entry center, a kind of facility colloquially known as a halfway house," the report from the Guardian stated. "Details about exactly where Sharper was transferred were not immediately available. The BoP has previously said it does not disclose the specific locations of people in community confinement for privacy, safety and security reasons."

When is Darren Sharper set to be released?

Sharper played for the Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints during his NFL career, racking up 949 tackles, 123 pass break-ups, 63 interceptions and nine forced fumbles.

Technically, Sharper was in the prime of his career with the Packers and Vikings. However, he led the NFL in interceptions in 2009 and won a Super Bowl with the Saints during that season.

The five-time Pro Bowler is projected to be released on December 27, 2028.
