Eagles Urged to Trade Jalen Hurts Backup Ahead of 2026 Season

The Philadelphia Eagles fell short of making it back to the Super Bowl following their win for the 2024-25 season, and that hurt. Fans are still pumped from that recent Super Bowl win, but with the kind of talent on this team, including quarterback Jalen Hurts, they could have made a run for another championship.

Now, the team is making changes ahead of 2026. Moe Moton of Bleacher Report has released a feature where he names one blockbuster trade each franchise should make before the 2026 season starts. “We could get more transactional fireworks this summer, or at least see moves that we expected teams to make, like the Brown deal, before final roster cuts on August 30,” he states.

Moton would like to see the team trade backup quarterback Tanner McKee, calling him someone who “isn’t a headline name, but the Eagles have a high price on his trade value.”

“According to ESPN’s Rich Cimini (h/t Philly Voice’s Jimmy Kempski), the New York Jets inquired about McKee’s availability, and the Eagles demanded a second-round pick for him,” he adds. “Based on the Eagles’ absurdly steep price for a quarterback who’s started in two Week 18 games with backups, they would prefer to keep him around.”

He adds: “That said, Philadelphia acquired Andy Dalton from the Carolina Panthers and selected Cole Payton in the fifth round of this year’s draft.”

So, the Eagles are set up to move on from McKnee already. They may want too much for him, but as Moton points out, they should drop their expectations and be happy with a later draft pick to at least get something of value from this deal.
