The FIFA World Cup is just 10 days away from kicking off in Mexico City, and 13 days from the opening match in “Dallas Stadium” in Arlington, as final preparations are being put in place for the biggest version of the tournament in its 96-year history.
One of the major proceedings involving Dallas took place on Monday afternoon at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center just outside of downtown, as FIFA president Gianni Infantino, Dallas mayor Eric Johnson and multiple members of the Dallas City Council were on hand to formally introduce the tournament’s International Broadcast Center.
Housed in the convention center, the entire tournament’s 104-match slate will have its broadcasts centered in downtown Dallas for every broadcasting country around the world. The state-of-the-art facility has been under construction since January, and it will now play a pivotal role in the tournament’s broadcast responsibilities around the globe.
Also housed in the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center is the VAR replay center for the tournament. For all the needed replay-assist moments in the tournament, on-field officials will refer to a room in the convention center for key decisions on the pitch.
Nine World Cup matches are slated to take place in Arlington, beginning on June 14 with Japan and The Netherlands. England and Croatia will match up on June 17, Argentina and Austria will face off on June 22, Japan will return on June 26 to play Sweden, and Argentina will return on June 27 to take on Jordan.
The knockout stage matches will begin on June 30 and July 3 with a pair of round of 32 matches before a round of 16 match on July 6 and a semifinal on July 14.
