Indiana Fever Fans Dealt Unfortunate News Before Golden State Valkyries Game

There is almost no such thing as a quiet game night anymore for the Indiana Fever. Every home matchup inside Gainbridge Fieldhouse has started to feel like a major event as the franchise continues to ride the momentum created by stars like Caitlin Clark, Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell.

Friday night's matchup against the second-year Golden State Valkyries was expected to bring another electric atmosphere downtown, with fans planning to gather outside the arena before tipoff for pregame activities and entertainment. Instead, the weather quickly became the biggest storyline of the evening before the teams even took the court.

Gainbridge Fieldhouse announced Friday afternoon that all Indiana Fever pregame and postgame events scheduled for Morris Bicentennial Plaza had officially been canceled because of inclement weather.

"Due to inclement weather, tonight's Indiana Fever pre and postgame events on Morris Bicentennial Plaza have been canceled," the venue posted on social media.

Storm Clouds Change the Atmosphere in Indianapolis

The cancellation comes as rain showers and cloudy conditions spread throughout central Indiana ahead of Friday night's game. Forecasts throughout the afternoon warned of wet weather carrying into the evening as Indianapolis prepares for a rainy Memorial Day weekend.

Despite the disappointing update for fans hoping to enjoy the outdoor festivities, the game itself is still expected to proceed as scheduled.

Gainbridge Fieldhouse also announced that doors for Friday night's matchup against Golden State will open at 6 p.m. local time.

That means thousands of fans are still expected to fill the arena for another highly anticipated Fever home game.

Indiana entered Friday night with a 3-2 record and remains one of the WNBA's biggest attractions early in the 2026 season. Nearly every Fever game has drawn major attention nationally as the franchise continues to become one of the league's defining stories.

Fever Game Nights Have Become Gigger Than Basketball

Part of what made Friday's announcement feel disappointing for many fans is how much Fever game days have evolved beyond basketball itself.

Home games at Gainbridge Fieldhouse regularly feature packed crowds downtown hours before tipoff. Fans often arrive early for photo opportunities, entertainment, family activities, food vendors and interactive experiences surrounding the arena before heading inside.

That atmosphere has become part of the Fever's growing identity.

The Valkyries' matchup only added more excitement entering Friday night. Golden State arrived with a surprising 3-1 record despite being a second-year franchise, making the game feel even larger than a typical early-season matchup.

Even with the weather forcing changes outside the arena, the energy inside Gainbridge Fieldhouse is still expected to feel massive once the doors open Friday night.
