Selection Sunday recap: Longhorns host regional, could meet Texas A&M in super regional
May 10-The road to Oklahoma City starts Friday.
The Selection Show revealed the 64 team bracket and Alabama was the No. 1 overall seed in the tournament, despite being runners up in the conference championship to Texas. The SEC Tournament champion Longhorns were announced as the second overall seed while their Red River Rival, Oklahoma, was third.
UT (42-10) will host Wagner (22-26), Baylor (28-26) and Wisconsin (32-19) in the Austin Regional; UT won back-to-back games against Baylor via run-rule in March. If the Longhorns and Texas A&M win all their games, next weekend will be the rematch of the 2024 Austin Super Regional where Texas was pushed to a Game 3 before punching its ticket to Oklahoma City. Last year, the Aggies were the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament but lost to Liberty in the regional - a first for NCAA softball.
Texas State (38-20) will travel for the Gainesville Regional and will play Georgia Tech in its first game. Texas Tech will host a Lubbock Regional and if it wins that, the Red Raiders would make the trip to Florida for the best of three series for a chance to appear in its second straight trip to the Women's College World Series.
The first set of games in the regionals begin Friday.
