Rashard Colquitt named new head football coach at Sam Houston

Aldine Nimitz offensive coordinator Rashard Colquitt is the new head football coach at Sam Houston, San Antonio ISD announced Wednesday.

It's the first head coaching job for Colquitt, who worked at Nimitz for the last four seasons. He has also coached at Coldspring-Oakhurst High School and in the Nacogdoches and Port Arthur ISDs.

Colquitt inherits a team coming off a district championship season. He plans to run an up-tempo, spread offense and utilize the team's speed on defense. Under Colquitt, Nimitz averaged 36.9 points per game last season on the way to an 8-3 season and third-place finish in District 14-6A.

"My goal is to continue to build the program, not just a team, but a program that is successful year after year," Colquitt said in a news release.

Colquitt succeeds Jeremy Williams, who stepped down in January to become the head coach at West Mesquite. Williams led the Hurricanes to a 23-20 record and three playoff appearances in four seasons. In 2025, Sam Houston was 6-5 overall and won the District 12-5A-II title with a 6-0 run.
