TCU’s Hailey Van Lith, Sedona Prince chosen as finalists for prestigious college basketball award
Hailey Van Lith fresh off securing TCU’s first-ever Big 12 conference title in women’s college basketball is up for one of the sport’s highest honors.
And so is her teammate, Sedona Prince.
They are two of the finalists for the John R. Wooden Award, given annually to the most outstanding player in men’s and women’s college basketball.
Lith has won several postseason honors already earning Big 12 Player of the Year, Newcomer of the Year and made first-team All-Big 12 while averaging 17.9 points, 5.3 assists and 4.4 rebounds. She was also named the most Outstanding player in the Big 12 tournament.
The Washington native is in her first season in Fort Worth. She started her college career with Louisville before transferring to LSU last season.
Prince was also named as a finalist for the award.
Prince spent the last two seasons at TCU after transferring from Oregon and earned a first-team All-Big 12 selection this year while averaging 17.5 points, 9.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists. She was also selected as a finalist for the Lisa Leslie Award, given annually to the best center in women’s college basketball.
If Van Lith or Prince were to win they would be the conference’s first winner since Brittany Griner won the award in back-to-back seasons starting in 2012 and the first ever in the history of TCU.
