The Cowtown Marathon returns to Fort Worth: 5 things to know about the 2024 festivities

More than 20,000 runners are expected to descend on Fort Worth for the 46th annual Cowtown Marathon this weekend.

Here’s everything runners and spectators need to know before the event kicks off at 7 a.m. on Saturday.

What is the Cowtown Marathon?

The Cowtown Marathon has been a staple in Fort Worth since it was started by the University of North Texas Health Science Center in 1979. The marathon serves as another purpose as a nonprofit that raises funds for the Children’s Activities for Life and Fitness(CALF) program.

The Cowtown Marathon has raised $21,396.66 for CALF so far this year. CALF focuses on healthy eating and exercise among children and donates running shoes to kids in low-income households. CALF annually visits 400 schools throughout Texas as part of its programs.

The Cowtown Marathon begins on Friday and ends on Sunday with events going on throughout the weekend culminating in the Marathon and Ultra Marathon on Sunday.

When is the deadline to register?

The last day to register for the in-person races is Saturday and the last day to register for the virtual races is Sunday. Those looking to register can go to raceroster.com to sign up.

How much does it cost to run?

The costs: $55 for the 5K, $255 for the 5K and the half marathon, $270 for the 5K and full marathon and $275 for the 5K and the Ultra Marathon.

What races are run?

The Cowtown Marathon includes the kids 5K, adults 5k, adults 10k, half marathon, marathon, ultra-marathon and the Cowtown challenge which consists of a Saturday and Sunday run.

Saturday’s races will begin with the adult 10K at 7 a.m., adult 5K at 7:45 and the kid’s 5k will begin at 9 a.m.

Sunday’s races, half marathon, marathon, and ultra-marathon will all begin at 7 a.m. and all races will start and end on Gendy Street.

When do the festivities begin?

The weekend events begin at 11:30 a.m. on Friday with the Health &Wellness Expo which will take place at the ‍Will Rogers Memorial Center Amon G. Cart Exhibit Hall.

The event is free to the public and will showcase vendors selling a variety of products including food, Cowtown Marathon apparel, wine, beer, and CBD among other offerings.
