Chiefs win Super Bowl: Commentary from Kansas City’s overtime win vs. 49ers
The Kansas City Chiefs are Super Bowl champions .... again (and again).
It’s three titles in five years for Kansas City, call it a dynasty, after Sunday’s 25-22 overtime victory over the San Francisco 49ers. The Chiefs trailed in the fourth quarter and in overtime, but Patrick Mahomes led game-tying and game-winning drives to give the Chiefs their fourth title ever (and third of the Mahomes/Andy Reid era).
It was a matchup on paper that was fascinating, all across the rosters.
Let’s start with the quarterback: A third Super Bowl championship elevates the ever-growing legend of Patrick Mahomes, who has been doing special things dating back to his childhood days.
He earned Super Bowl MVP honors for the third time.
Reid continues his claim as one of the greatest NFL coaches of all-time, and defensive standouts like L’Jarius Sneed and Chris Jones finished their so-called contract seasons on a high note. Jones had a key pressure to hold the 49ers to a field goal, setting up Mahomes’ game-winning overtime drive.
There’s no doubt another Super Bowl win means everything to the people of Kansas City, who have rallied around the Chiefs year after year — even when things were plenty bleak.
