New massive sports streaming service — combining ESPN, Fox — a ‘major win’ for fans
ESPN, Fox and Warner Bros. announced plans for a new sports streaming platform on Tuesday, including content from all four major professional sports.
Warner Bros. and Discovery CEO David Zaslav said the new sports streaming platform would be a game changer.
“This new sports service exemplifies our ability as an industry to drive innovation and provide consumers with more choice, enjoyment and value and we’re thrilled to deliver it to sports fans,” Zaslav said.
According to reports from CNBC, the starting price point could range from $45-$50 and the platform plans to launch this fall.
The offerings on this new sports platform could be massive as it could include ESPN and its sister networks; sports showcased on TNT or TBS; as well as FOX Sports and its sister stations.
Disney CEO Bob Iger touted the announcement as a watershed moment for the company in a statement.
“The launch of this new streaming sports service is a significant moment for Disney and ESPN, a major win for sports fans, and an important step forward for the media business,” said Iger, “This means the full suite of ESPN channels will be available to consumers alongside the sports programming of other industry leaders as part of a differentiated sports-centric service.”
