7-year-old North Texas boy gets his wish to play catch with Mike Trout on ESPN

A North Texas youth will be featured on ESPN on Sunday playing catch with his Major League Baseball hero.

Eli Velasquez, a 7-year-old from Corsicana, recently spent the day with Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels.

The duo are part of ESPN’s “My Wish” series that features players and teams granting sports-themed wishes to Make-A-Wish Kids.

Velsaquez was born with a heart condition that required multiple surgeries.

His wish was the opportunity to play catch with Trout and receive 1-on-1 coaching from the star, who is Velasquez’s favorite player.

Velasquez’s experience will be featured on the debut of the 16th season of the ESPN series, which will air at 7 a.m. CT on ESPN’s July 16 episode of SportsCenter.

The segment will also be aired in other editions of SportsCenter throughout the day.

The “My Wish” series, which was a Clio Sports Silver-winning entry in 2016, began in 2006 and has featured stars from the NFL, MLB and UFC. It has been hosted by Chris Connelly for all 16 seasons.

Velasquez’s segment will also be available on ESPN.com, where all 75 wishes that have been featured can also be watched.

A Spanish-language version will be available on ESPNDeportes.com. Versions of the videos will also be shared on ESPN’s social media.

Other wishes this season will include Ja’Marr Chase of the NFL’s Cincinnati Bengals, Josh Allen of the NFL’s Buffalo Bills and Dustin Poirier from the UFC.
