The field for the 2023 National Lacrosse League playoffs is set and for the first time in franchise history, the Panther City Lacrosse Club is headed to the playoffs.

Panther City LC is an expansion franchise launched in July 2020 and played its first season during the 2021-2022 NLL season and ended the season with a record of 7-11.

Bill Cameron and Greg Bibb were responsible for launching the team and after an encouraging first season and some key additions like rookie Jonathan Donville the team seemed poised to take a step toward contention.

That’s exactly what happened with Panther City LC winning three more games than the previous year en route to a record of 10-8 this season. That record gave them the third-best record in the Western Conference during the regular season.

Panther City LC will play the Calgary Roughnecks (13-5) the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference in a single elimination playoff match to see if they can advance to the Western Conference Finals which is a best-of-three.

Calgary beat Panther City twice during the season: 12-5 in Calgary on April 8 and 13-12 at Dickies Arena on April 21.

Panther City LC will play the Roughnecks at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday at Westjet Field at Scotiabank Saddledome (ESPNU/ESPN+).
