FIFA World Cup Trophy coming to Dallas in November ahead of 2022 tournament
Fans will have a chance to see the 2022 FIFA World Cup trophy in Dallas next month before it heads to Qatar for the mega soccer event.
Qatar is hosting the FIFA World Cup this year, which will see 32 countries compete against each other on the pitch. The quadrennial event kicks off Nov. 20 and wraps up Dec. 18.
As part of the final leg of a 51-country global tour, the 2022 FIFA World Cup trophy is swinging by Dallas’ Lighthouse ArtSpace on Nov. 6 and 7. The trophy will make two more stops in the U.S. in Los Angeles and New York before heading to Toronto and finally Qatar.
Fans can win a chance to see the legendary trophy through Coca-Cola products. Free tickets can be redeemed by purchasing specially marked FIFA World Cup 20-ounce regular or zero sugar Coca-Cola. A QR code on the packaging links to a registry for fans to receive two free tickets.
Along with getting a glimpse and pictures with the trophy, fans can win free Coca-Cola samples. Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages is hosting the Dallas event.
“As the local bottler of Coca-Cola products for Texas and surrounding states, our team at Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages is honored to bring one of the most prestigious trophies in football to North Texans,” said Jean Claude Tissot, president of Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages.
There have only been two trophy’s ever made for the FIFA World Cup, which dates back to 1930.
Used from 1930 to 1970, the first trophy was called the Jules Rimet Trophy after the original FIFA president. From 1974 to present day, the FIFA World Cup Trophy has been used.
The FIFA World Cup Trophy is 14 inches tall and is made of gold weighing about 13 and a half pounds.
While the trophy will only be in Dallas for a few days next month, in four years North Texas will host matches in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
This past summer, Arlington’s AT&T Stadium was selected as one of 10 venues in the U.S. that will host matches in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The U.S., Canada and Mexico are jointly hosting the 2026 event.
The host country is automatically guaranteed a spot in the world cup, meaning the U.S., Mexico and Canada will all play in the 2026 tournament. The U.S. national team also qualified for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and will face Wales in their first game Nov. 21.
