‘Top Gun: Maverick’ stars dropping by Texas Motor Speedway for NASCAR playoff

Three “Top Gun: Maverick” stars will trade air for land at Texas Motor Speedway this weekend.

The NASCAR playoffs continue this weekend at Fort Worth’s Texas Motor Speedway as 12 drivers race their way through the postseason. Before you head to the speedway this weekend, check out the Star-Telegram’s guide to parking, tickets and more.

Actor’s Jay Ellis, Danny Ramirez and Lewis Pullman, are featured in key dignitary roles for the Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 500 race on Sunday. The race gets started at 2:30 p.m. on USA Network and 95.9 FM “The Ranch”.

Ellis, who plays Lt. Reuben “Payback” Fitch, and Pullman, who plays Lt. Robert “Bob” Floyd, are serving as co-Grand Marshal’s at Sunday’s race. The pair will deliver the “Drivers, start your engines” line to the field of racers.

Ramirez, who plays Lt. Mickey “Fanboy” Garcia, is serving as the honorary starter and will wave the green flag from atop the starter’s stand to officially commence Sunday’s race.

Sunday’s race at Texas Motor Speedway is the start of the next NASCAR playoff round. Each playoff round includes three races before moving on to the next round. After the current round of 12, there is the round of 8 and finally the championship 4.

The Tom Cruise-starring vehicle “Top Gun: Maverick” has set the movie box office ablaze over the summer, raking in over $700 million in the U.S. alone for a worldwide total of $1.4 billion. The long-awaited sequel is Cruise’s follow up to the 1986 original, set in the world of Navy fighter pilots.

A team at the Fort Worth-based Lockheed Martin had a part to play in the movie, helping Cruise and his team with research and aircraft training methods.
