Kansas City Chiefs Patrick Mahomes and his trainer disagree ... on use of ketchup

The longtime personal trainer of Patrick Mahomes has thrown the penalty flag at his client — for excessive use of a condiment.

For years, Stroupe, the founder of the APEC training center in Fort Worth, and the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback have worked toward the dream of winning an NFL championship, and on Sunday Mahomes will lead his team against the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV in Miami.

The duo have worked together since Mahomes, now 24, was in the fourth grade, and they’ve developed off-season training programs and charted a course for self-improvement. They seemingly see eye-to-eye on nearly all aspects of Mahomes’ regimen. Except one.

Mahomes’ extreme use of ketchup.

“Look, Patrick puts ketchup on everything,” Stroupe said in responding to a question about any of Mahomes’ unusual habits during a recent interview with the Star-Telegram. “I’m not a man that goes to expensive steakhouses, but if and when I do I’m not putting ketchup on an expensive steak.

“I mean he’ll bathe it in ketchup. It’s just disrespectful,” Stroupe added with a wry smile. “It’s probably the worst thing about him.”
