Rico Gathers added 14 points for the fourth-seeded Bears (24-8), who advance to play top-seeded Kansas in the semifinals.
West Virginia (23-9) led 62-61 with just over 7 minutes to go, but the Bears turned up the defense and built a 73-66 lead with 2:22 left.
The fifth-seeded Mountaineers couldn’t get much closer, keeping them winless in three trips to the Big 12 tournament.

Sooners pull away
Buddy Hield scored 22 points, TaShawn Thomas added 17 points and 10 rebounds, and No. 15 Oklahoma used an early second-half run to beat Oklahoma State 64-49.
Jordan Woodard added 11 points for the third-seeded Sooners (22-9), who beat the No. 6 seed Cowboys (18-13) for the seventh time in their last eight meetings.
Oklahoma advances to play No. 13 Iowa State in tonight’s semifinals.
Le’Bryan Nash had 27 points and 12 rebounds for Oklahoma State, which may have needed a win or two in the Big 12 tournament to feel good about its chances on Selection Sunday.
