EDITORIAL: Chris Castillo best choice in Democratic runoff for Bexar County district clerk
May 12-The Democratic Party primary runoff for Bexar County district clerk is a rematch from four years ago, pitting Christine "Chris" Castillo against Gloria Martinez, who went on to win the runoff and the general election.
We recommended Castillo at that time, and we do so again. Castillo served 33 years and knows the office well, having progressed from an entry-level clerk to supervisor and division chief.
Often under the radar, the office of the district clerk serves as registrar, recorder and custodian of all criminal and civil records of the state district courts.
Several candidates for this office with whom we met during the primary season raised concerns about morale, a lack of vision and the need for more technology. Martinez was not among the candidates who joined our meeting.
We appreciate Castillo's experience and her ideas to bring the district clerk's office into the community, improve online access and ensure electronically filed documents are quickly accepted.
She has received endorsements from the Stonewall Democrats, former Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff and Precinct 2 Constable Leticia Vasquez.
Castillo would bring experience and vision to this office.
