Trump and Hitler

Regarding the July 20 commentary by Jeremi Suri, “Republicans have a moral obligation to oppose Trump”: I find this to be extremely offensive and an utterly untrue comparison of Adolf Hitler and Donald Trump.

It is ridiculous. Hitler was a maniac dictator whose power and cruelty destroyed so many lives.

I’m an English women, born at the end of World War II. My father was in the British Army as a driver and helped release the people who were interred in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp.

While Hitler did indeed help the German people get out of a depression in the 1930s, he later became fanatical.

There is no reason to imply that Trump would be another Hitler.

I’d like to ask Suri: Do Democrats have a moral obligation to oppose Hillary Clinton?

Eileen Watkins, Arlington

In contrast to Suri, a dyed-in-the-wool progressive, who resorts to fear-mongering and character assassination, any Republican who pledged to support Trump should do as pledged.

There is no proof in the allegations that Suri made against this out-of-the-box businessman.

Racists exist in both parties, but Trump was never called that until he decided to run for office as a Republican.

There are photos of him with the Clintons, the Rev. Al Sharpton and other “prominent” black leaders. They were all smiles and hugs.

But now things are different. Racist? No.

And may I remind Suri that it was the Social Democratic Party in Germany that became the National Socialist German Workers’ Party (Nazis) and that the German people had more of a paramilitary mindset.

John L. Tracy, Bedford

One can with certainty conclude that Jeremi Suri does not support Trump.

But Suri doesn’t have the courage to just say so. Rather, he hides behind totally absurd claims and allegations that he asserts to be rooted in “morals”!

Baloney! With such utterances Suri has permanently stained the Mack Brown Distinguished Chair that he holds at The University of Texas at Austin!

Harlan August Wensel, Fort Worth

How dare Jeremi Suri compare a Trump presidency to Nazi Germany.

Harry Thompson,
