Boys Ranch

Sometimes the will of the people gets overlooked or neglected. Such may be the case with the Bedford Boys Ranch.

Thousands of families have gone to the Bedford Boys Ranch with their children and grandchildren to watch and feed the wildlife.

It’s a great way to teach a child about empathy and compassion for wildlife.

Now the City Council is considering a ban on the public feeding of wildlife.

That might be OK, except that the wildlife have no food source as the lake was dredged, thereby destroying their ecosystem.

Their only food source is what visitors bring them.

Ending public feeding would result in much of the wildlife dying.

This is not acceptable.

If you agree, please call the city and tell them how you feel. The wildlife depend on it.

Joyce Powell,

Bedford

A great big thumbs down to Bedford city management for disregarding the animals at the lake at the Bedford Boys Ranch.

They have ignored a change.org petition with more than 1,500 signatures because they do not care.

We will continue to get the word out because people do care about animals in Bedford.

The animals have suffered through a dredging project with no regard for their well-being.

The mayor would rather not have the animals at the park they have called home for more than 40 years.

I call foul, Bedford!

Stop the abuse or step down. It’s not the animals that need to go away.

Terri Robb,

Bedford

B-58 Hustler

The Fort Worth City Council has rejected the idea of a $250,000 loan to obtain the last available example of the Fort Worth-built B-58 supersonic bomber.

It was an ideal instrument of defense because it never had to see combat.

I see airplanes not only as form and function but as works of art.

It’s ironic to me that we (rightly) venerate the works of old Europe — France, Italy and England — created hundreds of years ago, yet deem our local brilliance unworthy of exhibition and preservation.

Griffin T. Murphey,

Fort Worth

Medical marijuana

Congress voted this past week and passed legislation that would allow the Veterans Administration to “counsel patients on using medical marijuana for ailments such as chronic pain.”

Note this was not a vote to dispense medical marijuana but to “counsel.”

Every single Republican from Texas who voted said, “NO.”

These politicians always talk big about supporting veterans, but when it comes down to it, their first concern is about being “primaried” by someone to their political right.

Do they not know that many states have legalized medical marijuana and that doctors at the VA should be able to counsel their patients on pain relief?

Oh, they know. They just do not care.

There is a term for that: cowards.
