State education board; few statesmen; abortion prayers; laying hens; RINO politicians
Education board
My initial reaction to reading about Mary Lou Bruner, candidate for the State Board of Education in East Texas, was that this was an April Fool’s joke. But it was not.
Bruner claims that President Obama was once a gay prostitute, that our government slaughtered innocent children at Sandy Hook Elementary School, that the Democrats engineered President John Kennedy’s assassination.
What’s next?
Elvis is still alive? The Earth’s flat and the sun revolves around it?
Bruner has the right to believe as she wishes.
Her views, however, should be repugnant to all sane, thinking people in East Texas.
We can only hope that’s a majority of the voters in the district she seeks to represent.

Few statesmen
It’s amazing to me how people seem to be so ignorant when they vote.
If only they would look at the candidates’ voting records, they would never vote that way again.
Instead of voting intelligently, most seem to rely on false promises, campaign rhetoric and accusations.
A politician’s first responsibility is to get elected and then re-elected, whereas a statesman is one who does what’s best for his or her country.
We have too many politicians holding office and too few statesmen.

Abortion prayers
Why were the two people peacefully praying outside the Whole Woman’s Health Clinic characterized as protesters? (“Women face longer waits, greater expense to have abortions in Texas,” Sunday)
They were most likely praying to God to help end the legalization of the killing of thousands — nay, millions — of unborn humans; help them inform women seeking abortions, and their male companions, of the pro-life providers of free pregnancy help; and to lead clinic workers to seek more truly humanitarian employment.
Their prayers are most likely of loving concern for all, not hateful or judgmental. The nation could use more such peaceful, praying people!

Laying hens
Thank you for printing Matt O’Hayer’s commentary on the humane treatment of America’s laying hens (“We should show laying hens a little love”).
Americans eat a lot of eggs. The least we can do is ensure that the hens who provide us those eggs are treated well. They deserve a good quality of life, just as any other sentient creature does.

RINO politicians
Lest there be any question about the allegiance to conservatism of certain RINO (Republican in Name Only) career politician parasites (Sens. John McCain, Lindsey Graham, et al.), note their effort to defeat Donald Trump, thereby giving the presidency to the Democrats.
