Bernie Sanders
Avuncular U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont has passed another litmus test for being presidential material and eligible to be commander in chief with his commanding win in the New Hampshire primary.
It validates his slogan, “A future to believe in.”
Bernie is to be loved. He isn’t narcissistic, doesn’t preen himself for the limelight and is just a natural with the younger generation.
We simply adore him for his authenticity.

After 50-plus years as a volunteer in elections from City Hall to the White House, I don’t believe a declared socialist can be elected president.
I love Bernie Sanders and most of what he says, and I believe a lot of it should be enacted. But in politics, it’s pie-in-the-sky wishful thinking.
Bernie’s platform couldn’t be passed even if the Democrats controlled both houses of Congress.
Hillary Clinton is accused of changing her mind on some issues, which is good. It shows she will listen to advice and change if there is a better way.
Bill Clinton was an excellent president with prosperity and no wars or recessions.
Hillary will be just as good, if not better than Bill.

A&M incident
I read with sorrow and anger about the students at Texas A&M University who were verbally and vocally so rude to students who were visiting there on Feb. 9. (See Bud Kennedy’s Friday column, “Teens’ trip to A&M is more slur than tour.”)
While this certainly does not represent the thinking of a majority of Aggies, it did cast a very bad shadow on the tour.
I represent a large Aggie family, and I’m sure that they were as troubled by this behavior as I am.
I hope the university will see that this never happens again. I know we all believe in free speech, but this was way out of bounds.

Jobs competition
People are screaming, “Where are all the good jobs for me?”
This reminds me of what every teacher told us every school year. They encouraged us to learn as much as we could, because jobs would be taken over by machines in our lifetimes.
Also, the number of women entering the workforce has doubled the competition for jobs. Good jobs will be hard to come by because of this increase in competition.
I recall what we were told in a school assembly in the gym: “If you do not have a marketable skill, you will be left out.”

Jim Wright
The recent Best Photos special section could have included a photo of the memorial service for U.S. House Speaker Jim Wright.
He did so much for Fort Worth.
