Parkway speed; backing Trump

Star-Telegram

Parkway speed

Regarding the proposal to increase the speed limit on the Chisholm Trail Parkway from 50 to 60 mph between Arborlawn Drive and downtown Fort Worth (Jan. 26 story “Raising 50-mph speed limit on Chisholm Trail Parkway in Fort Worth could take months”):

That would decrease the travel time by 50 seconds. What’s the big deal?

Smooth-flowing traffic with no stop lights should be sufficient incentive to use the parkway.

Let’s keep the promises for a reduced speed limit that were made long ago.

Kurt Anderson, Fort Worth

Winston Barney’s Jan. 29 letter questioned why people need to drive faster than 50 mph along a four-mile section of Chisholm Trail Parkway.

He argued that driving 60 mph would save only 4.8 minutes, which to him is not important.

Actually, it would save only 48 seconds. But the real problem is that 50 mph feels unnaturally slow through that section, which is why motorists are complaining that it’s a speed trap.

John Pichler, Southlake

In response to Winston Barney’s advice to “slow down. Enjoy the new landscaping. Enjoy life,” in reference to the speed limit issue on the Chisholm Trail Parkway:

Some of us like to enjoy life in the fast lane and “take the corners as fast as we can go.” (Thanks to Pat Green for that one!)

Jeff Redding, Fort Worth

Backing Trump

Donald Trump has led the political conversation, beginning with border control. Regardless of his style, the issues were presented by him.

He stands for a wall and has made clear that a wall is needed to secure our border. Pope Francis has stated that it’s better to build bridges and not walls, yet Vatican City is surrounded by a wall.

If the wall has worked for my pope, then it can work for my state.

Even Joseph and Mary went to Bethlehem to be counted in a census. Trump wants to account for everyone in the U.S.

The Iowa speeches after the voting took place were filled with political correctness, except for Donald Trump, who simply said, “I love you.”

Deborah Fleischmann,

Fort Worth
