Symphony impasse; Palin’s blame; abuse at rodeo; Bernie mush-heads

Symphony impasse

I’ve read that negotiations to help keep one of the nation’s top symphony orchestras in business are at an impasse.

The Star-Telegram has reported that the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra management and the FWSO musicians need $4 million to satisfy both sides in negotiations.

Would someone pass on this information to local multibillionaire philanthropists and sports team owners Mark Cuban, Jerry Jones, Ray Davis and Bob R. Simpson?

Surely they love Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas and the U.S. enough that they would give up some of their lunch money so that the FWSO can continue to offer classical and pop concerts, in-school programs, competitions and the other outstanding cultural support they contribute to the area.

Tony Zurlo, Arlington

The disrespectful way in which our symphony musicians are being treated by the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra Association is shameful!

There has been no effort to negotiate or to fund a raise. They just expect musicians to take a cut.

It’s embarrassing that other cities such as Detroit have much larger budgets for their symphonies in spite of difficult economic times.

Pamela Souder, Fort Worth

Palin’s blame

I do not like or support Barack Obama or Democrats in general. However, when Sarah Palin implied that her son’s recent arrest was Obama’s fault, I lost what little respect I ever might have had for the woman.

Young Track Palin is facing an intoxication/domestic violence charge. There is no question the sorry state of the VA falls squarely on Obama, but to politicize Track’s arrest is a bit much.

Why didn’t she blame Democrats for her unmarried daughter’s two children?

Dave Waldrop, Hurst

Abuse at rodeo

I believe the Stock Show needs to be updated to a 21st-century understanding of what constitutes animal abuse.

As a child, I went to the rodeo because I loved horses and all animals. But seeing the rough way they were treated nagged at me.

Today, I no longer believe rodeos are harmless. I’ve come to agree with many groups that rodeos cause animals undue stress, pain and injury.

I would like to see Fort Worth celebrate the animals that helped pioneer our region, not abuse them for entertainment.

Julie Thibodeaux, Fort Worth

Bernie mush-heads

I find it quite disturbing to witness what has happened to our youth.

As these mush-heads worship at the alter of Bernie Sanders, one wonders if they understand what true socialism means. Perhaps if they had studied economics rather than the liberal philosophical nonsense taught in today’s schools, they might better understand.

Paul Gabel, Fort Worth
