Guns and rights

I believe in the right to keep and bear arms, and I’m in favor of both concealed and open carry.

These people are at least 21, licensed and have no criminal or mental illness record.

However, I am not in favor of “constitutional carry” without a license.

I draw the line.

So far, open carry has been much ado about nothing.

Let’s pray it stays that way.

Larry L. Stowe,

Benbrook

Even the National Rifle Association supports keeping guns out of the hands of those who are mentally ill. (See Jan. 15 story “Guns OK in state mental hospitals.”)

All the assurances in the world don’t guarantee that a patient will not get hold of a firearm brought in by a person licensed to carry.

The irony is that tobacco and alcohol are still banned in mental hospitals, but guns are not!

This is beyond stupidity; it is lunacy.

The Norwegians have it right. Their word for “crazy” is “Texas.”

Allowing guns in mental hospitals would tend to support their view.

Audrey Remley,

Fort Worth

Tax exemption

In response to a recent letter: Yes, taxpayers over 65 are allowed a senior tax exemption.

But the Tarrant County tax assessor-collector refunds over-payments only for one year.

That seems neither right nor fair.

Our tax collector would serve the public interest better by putting “You must apply for age and homestead exemptions” in the space occupied by “In God we trust.”

Robert Stone,

Fort Worth

Benghazi movie

The film 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi is meant to call for endless special committee hearings regarding whether Hillary Clinton as secretary of state was involved in any order for a stand down of military units.

The CIA chief and Benghazi station chief deny any such order.

Who’s more believable, the CIA or the hired contractors harvesting big dollars off a book and movie?

Charles Alexander,

Benbrook
