Problems at TAD

After reading June Hoffman’s Oct. 27 letter and Mary Linda Hick’s Oct. 29 letter, I suggest that the Tarrant Appraisal District get its story straight as to why we didn’t get our exemptions applied to the 2015 tax year.

I also sent my “Over 65” and “Homestead” exemptions to TAD in April. When I received my tax bill in October it was for the full amount.

After calling the tax assessor-collector’s office twice and TAD twice, I learned the report with my exemptions was sent to the tax assessor-collector’s office in an August report.

The tax assessor rejected it due to errors in the report and sent it back to TAD, which is now sitting on the rejected files with no correction date in sight.

I was told to pay the full amount or be penalized while the incorrect report sits at the TAD office.

TAD, get your stories straight and get to work.

Social Security

The government has decided that there will be no cost-of-living adjustment to Social Security because the price of gasoline has gone down. What that has to do with the incredible rising cost of prescriptions I have yet to understand.

Add the exorbitant co-pays that the insurance companies demand and the cost of living for seniors in this oligarchy has risen to the point that I’m on the glide path to death.

House Speaker Paul Ryan has no concept of what real people earn. His deepest desire is to privatize Social Security and turn Medicare into a voucher plan. Go over your quota of medical care and you get nothing for the rest of the year.

I hope that there are enough votes in Congress to override what Ryan wants to do.

Campaign money

Donors should absolutely disclose their political contributions! Otherwise, how will we ever have honest elections with candidates who aren’t “bought” into office?

It amazes me that this should even be a question!
