Democratic debate; snow in hell
Democratic debate
The Democratic presidential candidates were on target in their Tuesday night debate on CNN.
They conducted themselves with character, fact-checked knowledge and a respectful regard for each other.
What a refreshing, meaningful and intelligent debate — not a wrestling match where people were tearing each other apart.
Kudos to CNN’s Anderson Cooper for his expert interviewing.
Sue E. Turner, Fort Worth
The Democratic candidates made it clear that, in their minds, the biggest threats to America are climate change, energy efficiency and income inequality.
What I did not hear was anything about individual responsibility. The other thing that stood out was no mention of God, faith and morals.
At least some Republicans talked about how faith guides them. Some Democrats’ thoughts have changed over the years because of information and scientists, not faith and the Bible.
The biggest threat to the U.S. is the absence of God.
Eric Grunor, Denton
The Democrats’ debate indicated what our country is up against.
Three out of five are either not Democrats or they are do-nothing Republican retreads. The fourth was mayor of a city that had the highest murder rate in the country and still suffers from his “legacy.”
Then there is the lawyer who lost her billing records and her emails but says she can “get things done”!
The current occupant of the White House got a lot done, too. Most of it bad.

Snow in hell
After that disastrous seventh inning for the Texas Rangers on Wednesday and Brandon Weeden’s three starts as quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, the only chance for snow in hell this year is for Baylor to win the national college football championship.
Ralph Gary, Grapevine
The only thing weirder than the seventh inning in Toronto was the truck commercial with pickups and motorcycles in the sand.
The only thing missing was the Taliban flag. Are you kidding me?
