Rangers in playoffs; Obama no socialist; preventing falls; who’s the RINO?
Rangers in playoffs
As I watched the Texas Rangers clinch the American League West title, I was thinking about all the hatred sports commentator Randy Galloway has spewed toward Rangers general manager Jon Daniels and the Rangers’ ownership.
Daniels basically overhauled the roster, and through very shrewd trades rebuilt the bullpen into one of the best in the major leagues.
Daniels hired Jeff Banister to manage the club instead of one of Galloway’s old cronies.
That choice worked out pretty well, didn’t it?
It’s time Galloway penned a column admitting that he, like most media members, have no idea how to run a sports franchise.
His attacks on Daniels, Ray Davis and to a lesser extent, Bob Simpson, went beyond reasonable and fair and crossed the line into being disgusting and childish.

I’m very disappointed with the local TV news coverage of the Texas Rangers winning the American League West.
It seemed that the Dallas Cowboys’ pre- and post-game shows were more important.
Maybe Josh Hamilton had it right about Arlington not being a baseball town.
He recanted that, but from the lack of TV attention, he may have sensed something.

Obama no socialist
In Monday’s All Points fixture, Jack O. Lewis called President Obama a socialist, meaning it as a putdown.
The slander is demonstrably untrue.
President Obama ran as a Democrat, not as a socialist.
Regardless of conservative talking points, Obamacare is not socialistic, because it relies on private insurance companies.

Preventing falls
Readers who were alarmed by the sobering statistics related to falls in your Sept. 23 story “Staying safe, step by step” can take comfort in an initiative involving United Way of Tarrant County.
A new $602,779 federal grant is enabling United Way of Tarrant County to work with eight Area Agencies on Aging and other partners to expand the “A Matter of Balance” fall-prevention program in the Dallas-Fort Worth, Austin, San Antonio, Corpus Christi and El Paso areas.
“A Matter of Balance” is a research-based series of eight free classes that help people reduce their fear of falling; increase their strength, balance and activity level through exercise; and teach them how to protect themselves and recover if they do fall.
Readers can call the Aging and Disability Resource Center at 1-888-730-2372 or Senior Citizen Services at 817-413-4949 to learn about “A Matter of Balance” class dates and locations in this area.
As your article pointed out, falls are preventable.

Who’s the RINO?
Why are lifelong Republicans being called RINOs (Republicans in name only)?
I think all would agree that Ronald Reagan was the epitome of “Republican.”
Does Sen. Ted Cruz resemble Reagan in any way?
Closer to home, how about state Sen. Konni Burton?
If Reagan were alive today, the hard-line, radical right would be portraying him as a liberal “sissy.”
Aren’t they the ones who are the RINOs?
I’m trying to decide why they didn’t just stick with the name Tea Party instead of attempting to steal the moniker from the rest of us.
John T. Johnson III,
Arlington
